Panel 1. Hemispheric Agenda

Representatives to the Committee of Experts of the Mechanism for the Implementation of the Inter-American Convention against Corruption (MESICIC), present a vision of hemispheric commitments, progress and agenda on transparency, accountability and citizen participation in the framework of Inter-American Convention against Corruption.

Panel 2. Open Government Partnership (Member Countries)

The Open Government Partnership is an opportunity to consolidate an agenda for transparency, promote collaboration between government and civil society, and strengthen accountability mechanisms in the region. Participants will be presenting progress and challenges they have faced in the elaboration and implementation of their National Action Plans.

Panel 3. Open Government Partnership (Countries Eligible to Participate)

In the next Open Government Partnership meeting which will be held in Brasilia on April 16th, 2012, countries will discuss the actions plans of thirteen countries that will intent to the Partnership. This panel aims to share their experience in the process of elaborating the Action Plans.

III. Workshops:

(16:00 to 17:30 hours)

Development: four simultaneous workshops will be held where countries will present best practices and specific projects in each subject. After the presentations, there will be an open discussion with regard to the implementation process of these practices and projects. (It is necessary to register for the workshops. Each one will have a minimum of three study cases and a maximum of seven. In case workshops do not get a minimum of participants they will be canceled). Workshops will be open to all participants.

The four workshops are the following:

  1. Transparency and accountability for better public services delivery (Coordinated by Nicolás Dassen, Inter-American Development Bank)
  2. Public resources efficient and transparent management to prevent corruption and promote integrity (Coordinated by Juan Pablo Guerrero, Open Budget Partnership)
  3. Getting further of access to public information right: transparency in local government (Coordinated by Eduardo Guerrero, LANTIA)
  4. Driving citizen participation through IT (Coordinated by Tariq Khokhar, World Bank Institute)

IV. Summing-up session

(18:00 to 19:00 hours)

  • Conclusion will be presented by the rapporteurs of each panel.
  • Conclusions will represent the position of the region on the Open Government Partnership.
  • Closing remarks: commitments of participants about Open Government.
